History is repeating, students are leading
4/8/2018
【Hana Media 】Saturday should be a day for people to get some rest and relax. But this Saturday is busy for many high school students. After "March for Our Lives" two weeks ago, students didn't stop there. They are not going to stop the fighting for their safe schooling. A "Townhall for Our Lives" movement took place across the country simultaneously.
In Texas, SLHS students demonstrated a high organizational skills and very experienced leadership from Chris Pino. Two moderators from SLHS debate teem also performed professionally. Student Volunteers have given active support to the Town hall. They are the future leaders of America.Very proud of them.
It is a very successful Town hall that can be comparable to any adult organized Townhall meeting. Broad issues such as curriculum reform, STAAR test, school funding, gun control, school safety measures, school bullying, student pregnancy care, medicine and healthcare, were addressed by students and teachers, and answered by invited panelists composed by candidates and Incumbents.
Candidates or incumbents were divided into four groups from school board, city council, State Rep and federal level candidates. CD22 candidates Letitia Plummer and Sri Preston Kulkarni, State District 28 candidate Meghan Brown-Scoggins, candidate for state school board Eliz Markowitz attended the Townhall and gave their knowledgeable and experienced suggestions on issues concerned students and teachers.
Many students and parents as well as community leaders & activists attended the townhall. AADC Chair Ling Luo attended the student Townhall and witnessed how these High school students are making the history in pushing gun control. They are accomplishing something that their parents generation could not dream of.
Voter registers were helping students to get registered. Candidates had another venue to promote themselves.
As this is a non partisan event, both DEM and GOP candidates & incumbents demostrated very polite and harmonious manner in front of students. A good role model sets for future politicians and next generations. [Hana Media by Danqi]
